ANTIQUE VINTAGE CHINESE LACQUER CARVED WOOD WEDDING BASKET BUCKET BOX
This beautiful antique Chinese wedding box would be used by the bride on her wedding day to carry her dowry. The piece features an unusual form and intricate hand carving accented with gold gilt detailing on the front panel. The large decorative handle includes a small simple swivel mechanism to keep the handle snuggly between the flared side holders while holding the lid in place. The entire heavy piece is hand crafted of wood with a rustic reddish brown lacquered finish on the exterior that has achieved a wonderful aged patina.
Condition: Very good antique condition with lots of
distressed
patina and other signs of wear including small nicks, chips, and cracks in the wood as well as some scuffs, rough patches, and marks in the finish. The bottom panel is loose but stays in place due to the tapered shape. There is a long shallow chip on one corner of the lid and the heads of two figures in the carved panel are missing. A repair has been made to the corner of one of the flared handle holders. The base may have been replaced, as the finish is different.
