    You are admiring a spectacular specimen, a Spondylus variegatus (Lamarck, 1819)
    measuring a very nice 93.8mm...an amazing "Spiny Oyster" form w/beautiful spines & an incredible color pattern is displayed...also, very small, teeny tiny purple barnacles (Balanus) are attached on this very interesting specimen.  This beauty was diver collected at 25m on the Caubian Reef between Olango & Caubian Islands, Philippines.   A member of the Spondylidae family which includes all Thorny Oysters & a longtime favorite of collectors worldwide.  Thank you for visiting our store this afternoon...and an excellent choice, too.
